Zakrzówek in a new edition
Work is coming to an end and from June 1st, Zakrzówek Park will be opened. Unfortunately, we will have to wait a little longer for the opening of the bathing area, until June 22nd. Already now, the area is a major attraction both for residents and tourists. On sunny days, crowds of people stroll along the paths around the reservoir. Zakrzówek, called Little Croatia, will now attract even more people seeking rest and refreshment on hot days.
- What was there at the beginning?
Just 4 years ago, Zakrzówek was a wild and unguarded bathing site, created on a post-industrial area, after the old and quite deep quarry was flooded in 1990. It is a large, greenery-filled attraction for Krakow residents, less than 3 km from the city center, resembling Croatian seaside areas.
- What awaits us now?
Currently, the biggest attraction of Zakrzówek will be five floating pools. The shallowest is 40 cm deep, the deepest over 2 m. The two largest are 70 m long each. The pool structures, attached to the quarry walls, float on the water thanks to air supports. Wooden piers (8 m wide) were built around each pool, meant for sunbathing. The bathing area will be able to accommodate even several hundred people at once, but the investor - the City Greenery Board - wants to monitor the occupancy of the pools and plans an app where the crowd status of the bathing area can be checked.
Additionally, a lessee is being sought for the cafe in the entrance pavilion, which will likely open in the second half of the season.
Besides the swimming area, running, cycling, rollerblading and scooter routes around the reservoir have been designed. There is also an outdoor gym as well as a building with changing rooms and showers.
