Wawel is yours

05.09.2023 - 31.12.2099

From September 15 to 17, Wawel will become a place open to art, science, and experiences. All thanks to the festival Wawel is yours, which refers to the culture nurtured by the last Jagiellonians.

The Jagiellonian court had an international character and was a cultural mecca for its guests. The aim of the festival is to recreate this revolutionary and breakthrough time in many fields of art and life. We invite representatives of different generations to a joint and sometimes surprising conversation about history and cultural heritage reflected in the works of many contemporary artists, through which we build today a bridge between the past and the present, between the great achievements of the Jagiellonians and the 21st century – says Bogumiła Wiśniewska, head of the Art Interpretation Department at Wawel.

The slogan of this year's edition is “Laboratory of museum knowledge and experiences.” Therefore, a planetarium will be set up in the courtyard of the Royal Castle, and visitors will be able to participate in discussions and workshops on geographical, astrological, and biological discoveries.

Photography and cinema enthusiasts will also be considered. We have planned screenings of “Epitaph for Barbara Radziwiłłówna” by Janusz Majewski, “Photon” by Norman Leto, and “The Last Family” by Jan P. Matuszyński. Film screenings will be accompanied by meetings with directors and specialists. Additionally, a bus will be parked in the courtyard of the Royal Castle at Wawel where visitors can try their hand as filmmakers and see what the famous mobile film studio of Sławomir Idziak looks like – reveals Wiśniewska.

The entire event will also be accompanied by music referring to the tradition of balls and concerts from the Jagiellonian times. The festival organizers have prepared a number of musical attractions for participants, including rap workshops, silent disco, a meeting with Monika Brodka, and “Night with ambient,” an outdoor ambient music concert.
