Summer Jazz Festival

04.07.2023 - 31.12.2099

Kraków will become a jazz stage and space for nearly 100 concerts for two summer months. All thanks to the Summer Jazz Festival Kraków. Starting from July 2nd, concerts will take place both in large halls and atmospheric clubs.

This year, 130 concerts will be held in several locations in the capital of Małopolska and its surroundings, featuring 500 artists from Poland and abroad, and the organizers estimate that 50 thousand listeners will attend.

  •     How did it all begin?

The event's beginnings are linked to the 40th anniversary of Piwnica pod Baranami in 1996. At the urging of the club's founder Piotr Skrzynecki, Kraków impresario Witold Wnuk organized for the first time a series of concerts under the name Summer Jazz Festival in Piwnica pod Baranami. The event developed dynamically and over the course of several years became the largest jazz event in Poland. Today, to hear jazz, you don’t always even need to enter a club. This year’s 28th edition was inaugurated outdoors – with the popular New Orleans Parade, which on July 2nd marched from the Main Market Square to Szczepański Square. The musical celebration this time will last longer than usual: it will end only on September 2nd with a special concert on the 10th anniversary of guitarist Jarek Śmietana’s death.
